Midsummer News - July 17, 2008
Natasha's was a good time as always last weekend. Did two almost-all originals sets with some more brand-new songs added to the mix. We're all enjoying the sound of Mike's flashy new Epiphone electric. Also the sound of David singing. David can beat the skins, tell you anything you ever wanted to know about mushrooms, AND sing.
Five outdoor gigs coming up (see calendar). It must be summer.
More new songs in the Music Sampler for anyone who's interested. Also, recent article posted on the Reviews tab.
Don't miss Steve Earle and Allison Moorer at the Kentucky Theatre on July 22!
BILLYBLUES: What We're Listening To - June 26, 2008
Dave: Jim Lauderdale's "Honey Songs" and Tom Petty's "Mudcrutch"
Mark: Tift Merritt's "In Another Country" and The Steeldrivers' "Steeldrivers"
Colin: Alexis P. Suter Band's "Just Another Fool"
Mike: Lonnie Mack's "Memphis Wham" and Bobby Blue Bland's "The Best Of"

Lighthouse Benefit - April 19, 2008
Dancingest roomful of folks we ever saw! Smoking barbecue, great venue, and big fun at Good Old Days in Midway. All for a fine cause. We hope to see you people at Natasha's--8 p.m., May 24.
P.S. We'll let everybody know when our Red Barn Radio Show is going to air--as soon as we know.
Nashville - April 11, 2008
The One Tooth Records Showcase in Nashville was a blast (see pictures in Photo Gallery). Billyblues batted cleanup for the very vocal core audience who lasted till midnight despite the tornado warning. One highlight was Nashville session ace John Heinrich who sat in with the band on pedal steel and saxophone. Another was Danville harmonica showman Jon ("Too Bad") Waters who wailed on "Man of Few Words."
Big thanks to the Nashville-area Centre alumni who filled the balcony. And hats off to One Tooth boss Aaron Raitiere who made the whole event happen.
Packed week coming up with video filming, Lexington radio show, Danville gig, and Midway Lighthouse benefit.
Sellout - March 30, 2008
Another full house at Natasha's--gracias!--saw the North American debut of Billy-takes on "I'll Go Crazy," "You Really Got a Hold on Me," and "Under My Thumb." Other highlights included the new originals "Playing the Odds" and "She Don't Need to Be Improved."
Lively couple of weeks coming up with Nashville gig at Third and Lindsley, Red Barn Radio show in Lexington, Centre Carnival in Danville, Lighthouse Benefit in Midway, and music video filming in Weisiger Theatre.
Folkies be warned: Mike's new Epiphone electric is due to arrive any day now.
Heads Up - March 4, 2008
You asked for it: A live take of "Unchain My Heart" is now in the Music Sampler. Recorded at our Kentucky Homefront appearance in Louisville.
And another item on the covers front: We're working up a Billy-version of James Brown's "I'll Go Crazy," so watch out! Soul mandolin.
Farther On Down the Road - February 17, 2008
Next gig: Natasha's 3/29 at 9.
Red Barn Radio appearance rescheduled for 7:30 April 16.
For the curious, there are new shots up in Photo Gallery. Also a new tune on the Music tab. Basement tape of a song never Billywaxed.
New Year Billynews - January 27, 2008
Dave is just back from the Frenchmen Street music scene in New Orleans. Be on the lookout for that second-line beat in a new BILLYBLUES tune. And check out the tomb shot of Dave in the Photo Gallery-- following Peter Fonda's lead in the cemetery scene from "Easy Rider."
Mike's song "Gravel This Road" (from BILLYBLUES' Third Shot) has a promotion contract with Willie Nelson's producer. Would we permit the sacrilege of Willie or Lyle or Emmylou recording one of our numbers? You bet!
American Songwriter magazine has an interview with Mark in its latest issue.
Colin is getting ready to head off to Mexico for a week. In the meantime he's co-writing with son Aaron on a new song, "Purple Heart," for the new BILLYBLUES album.
Such a Night - January 15, 2008
What a great turnout for Natasha's! The new year is looking good--and so were you. We got glamorous, high-energy footage for the fan-tribute video in the works. And everybody got to see David's ability to keep the show going, solo, when Mike's AA battery went down. (He promises he's saving up to get a new one before the next show.) We loved everything about the night except that 40 people were turned away when Natasha's ran out of room. Red Barn Radio Show coming up next. We'll get out the details soon.
Shout Out - November 25, 2007
The Billynoir video zoomed over a thousand YouTube views in 20 days, so big thanks again to all who clicked play.
We're woodshedding new songs over the holidays and so had to pass on some gig dates, but we'll be back live in January. So stay tuned!
In the meantime check out the demo songs on the "Listen to Music" page and let us know what you think. We're hoping for friend participation in the making of Album V.
Hope you had a lot of pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
Natasha's Gig - November 4, 2007
Capacity crowd on a UK basketball night! With great dancing on the classics set. Our thanks to all of you. It's been a fun fall run. Butchertown, Constitution Square, Kentucky Homefront, Natasha's--four of our favorite gigs ever, all in a row. We're taking it to the woodshop now while we work on songs for album 5. We'll post a new-song demo every now and then for your reaction, so check back.
Music Video Launch - October 20, 2007
Officially released the music video of "Every Kind of Fool" on 10/18. And had 300 views in 24 hours. So let's keep the ball rolling everybody! BILLYBLUES wins a purchase option on the Brooklyn Bridge AND 40 prime acres in Juarez if we get 500 youtube views within the week.
Kentucky Homefront - October 13, 2007
Many thanks to all the Louisville friends who came out for the Homefront show. We'll put out the word when we know the date of the radio broadcast. In the meantime, next gig: Natasha's on Nov. 3.
New CD Stirring - October 5, 2007
Many thanks to all of you who came out for the Butchertown and Constitution Square concerts. Sorghum, cornbread, sunshine, moonshine, buck dancing--these events had it all.
We've started working on songs for CD#5. Check out "Playing the Odds" on the Music tab.
Appearance at Kentucky Homefront in Louisville coming up--live radio show at the Kentucky Theatre adjacent to the Brown Hotel. One of our all-time favorite gigs the last time we did it. Also, be on the lookout for our music videos of "Junk in the Trunk" and "Every Kind of Fool." You may be IN them.
Red Barn Radio - January 14, 2007
Smoked Mullet recorded for Red Barn this past week, with Mike Norris sitting in on lead guitar and Colin adding a bit of mandolin... should be broadcast sometime in the next month, Sunday 5 PM on 100.7
CD Release Party - December 16, 2006
Great time, great crowd... many thanks to the folks who were kind enough to come listen (and buy a CD!), and thanks to the hospitality from the Community Arts Center.
Road Trip - September 24, 2006
We just came back from Lynchburg VA... passed through Johnson City TENN checking out a club called the DOWN HOME. The SUBARU broke down again on the road. Altenator belt broke pulling into a rest stop, but, we coasted into a parking place just in front of a couple who jumped up and offered to fix it. Back on the road in an hour or so and made the gig with an hour to spare!
Had a great evening, good crowd, good food....
CD number 4 - September 17, 2006
...well, the recording and mixing is FINISHED... thanks to Jeff Carpenter at AL FRESCO'S studio in Louisville...
and we're ready to begin putting together design ideas...
Had a great time playing the Country Days Festival in Butchertown, KY as well as the Constitution Festival (along with Aaron Raitiere) this past Saturday...
now for another road trip!
Lynchburg Virginia!
and then home to the Old Bridge Bar and Grill...
